The I and the Eye: deceiving perception...

On the 24th February 2019 a new journey will begin: I will be an artist in residence at Kinitiras Studio, in Athens, GR. It is an amazing space and for that I am utterly lucky and grateful. What intrigues me the most is that I am invited to investigate through my artistic research project what one can consider as "a journey". A journey. A voyage. Marcel Proust said: " The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeing new sights, but in looking with new eyes". It is not in going somewhere new, it is the way one sees what one already knows as if it was the first time.

I am not only what you see. I am not only my reflection, my shape, my adaptation to the norm. The mirror glass is a deceitful one. It sets a finite image of oneself. And I am anything but finite, static, passive. Dissociate the "I" from the "Eye" and a whole new field of possibilities will appear before us. We are not defined by our familiarity: our two eyes, our one nose, our mouth, our five fingers in each hand, our female and male genitalia. We can be sculpted, we can be transformed, we can overcome the boundaries set from our social and political construct, we can escape the guilt and fear that society has long been nourishing us.

Dissociate the "I" from the "Eye" and a whole new field of possibilities will appear before us.

Dissociate the "I" from the "Eye" and enhance your imagination rather than your cognitive knowledge.

Dissociate the "I" from the "Eye" and set off on the real voyage of your existence.
